I am very disappointed by the Ford Government's proposed plan to destroy parts of the Greenbelt in order to build 50,000 new homes also completely ignores the ecological biodiversity of this space. What about the homes of the 78 species at risk that live there? Like the monarch butterfly, bobolink, barn owl, and spotted turtle. The Ontario Government needs to understand that an ecosystem is interconnected, if you remove one piece, the entire habitat is affected. Trees communicate and protect each other through underground root networks; fungi contributes to soil biodiversity and act as decomposers; and species of wildlife that are already endangered because of habitat loss will be threatened even more. At a time when climate change is threatening the survival of humanity, we should be protecting forests that take in carbon dioxide and allow us to breathe and live. Where is the leadership and integrity to do the right thing? I hope you will change this proposal and protect the Greenbelt for future generations. Thank you.
