I cannot stress how strongly opposed to this proposal I am. The provincial government promised to keep the Greenbelt untouched. We trusted this government to do so. Simply adding more acreage of protected lands will not undo the harm done to the Green Belt.
What good are 1.5 million new homes, when those currently feeling the brunt of the housing crises cannot afford these new development builds? Who but the upper middle class with vehicles can purchase these new homes, as there is little infrastructure and public transportation to commute into Toronto?
I am strongly opposed to any interference with the existing Green Belt. It is a slippery slope into the complete destruction of this space.
This proposal reeks of collusion with developers. We did not elect them into power - we elected a provincial government that promised to leave the Green Belt 'unequivocally' untouched.
