As a Civil Engineer, this is a horrible idea and contributes to the current and growing issue of urban sprawl in the GTA. From reviewing population density maps in the GTA, there’s a huge footprint of area within existing boundaries that can be used for new housing, whether it be condos, apartments, mixed use developments, townhouses, etc.
Destroying the greenbelt, and building on floodplains, will further contribute to climate change and also puts surrounding infrastructure at risk during storm events.
I ask the administration to consider repealing this change. As committed by Doug ford in 2018 “We won’t touch the greenbelt”.
