I am very much opposed to the development of housing and destruction of the Greenbelt. This will have devastating and long-term consequences on the wildlife and nature within and around that area that is vital to sustaining the ecosystem. Development on the Greenbelt would deteriorate the climate and the environment. In a world where there is already an alarming decline of nature and greenspace, this would serve to further exacerbate this problem. In addition, the Greenbelt and surrounding area is, for many GTA residents, the only access to nature; for wildlife, it is most likelly the only available area for wildlife to grow, seek refuge, and thrive.
I understand that a primary premise for the development on the Greenbelt is to alleviate the housing shortage/crisis. It is an issue that I certainly empathize with. However, addressing the housing shortage should not come at the expense of destroying the Greenbelt and decimating the population of many endangered species of wildlife in the area. There must be a different way, and I urge you to consider alternative ways to approach this problem.
