I am a 34-year-old resident of Oshawa, Ontario. I find the recent announcement by the Ford government concerning the proposed amendments to the Green Belt plan to be absolutely atrocious. What good will it do to add additional protected land under this designation if you can just backtrack on these sentiments in the next 6 months, 1 year, 10 years, etc. when it no longer suits your purposes? What does your word even mean anymore? If you start removing land under this protection, when will you ever stop? The land protected under the Greenbelt designation should not be touched. It's status should remain as is. It's a very slippery slope if we start changing something like this. What guarantees do we even have that these new homes will fix the housing crisis? I highly doubt it will fix the affordability issues we currently face. I think green spaces are incredibly important and need to remain as such for generations to come. I beg you to not move forward with the proposed amendments.
