As a naturalist in Central Ontario, I see the effects of climate change every day: new warm-climate species like opossums becoming established here, earlier springs and later falls, a huge increase in invasive species, poison ivy and ragweed (all of which thrive in the higher CO2 levels in the atmosphere), a record 23 days this summer over 30 C (four times the average), a huge loss of city trees from violent windstorms, a longer pollen and allergy season....
I have six grandchildren and think about their future every day. My own daughters are brought to tears when we talk about climate change as a family. To think the Ontario government is going to cancel the excellent Cap and Trade tool to fight climate change - the revenue from which helps finance other important actions - is outrageous. It literally makes me and my family feel like there's no hope and that we'll just continue sleepwalking towards disaster. Can 97% of the world's climate scientists really be wrong? Please reverse this decision and, if you must, return the revenues from Cap and Trade directly to the citizens in the form of an annual Cap and Trade cheque.
