I strongly disagree with the repeal of Ontario’s cap and trade system. The impending global climate breakdown is an existential issue for humanity. Ontario may only contribute to a fraction of the problem but every jurisdiction can claim this and so each must do its part.
Ontario’s cap and trade system was a well-designed and cost-efficient way of reducing our carbon emissions. The government has offered no credible alternative.
Strangely, the political advantage of this move seems less than obvious. Especially once the federal government starts sending carbon tax refunds to every Ontarian early next year.
