The continued attack by the Ford Conservative government on the Greenbelt and other important agricultural and natural spaces is shameful. They are making a claim that changes proposed are necessary for housing. This is not the kind of housing needed. Most new immigrants will be coming to where the jobs are on more urban settings and are likely low paying jobs where a car would be a luxury. We are in a climate crisis. Densification of urban spaces is recommended by all environmental bodies ….not urban sprawl requiring more cars. Green public transit should be the focus.
This plan further divides the have from have nots and gives a green light to those developers who want to build on prestige green spaces for the biggest profit. Bypassing environmental assessments is ridiculous. Out watersheds need to he considered as climate changes. The pressure on our lakes from (especially lake simcoe) from the proposed build outs will sure cause a destruction of its natural habitat. Lastly we need our agricultural land. How does this government propose that we feed the increased population? The excuse that the Federal government has just announced a massive increase in immigrants so the provincial government needs to do this is comical. The increase is only about 10 percent over what was planned. Think again Ford…only your developer buddies want this, not the people!
