How can the government of Ontario consider removing land from the Greenbelt to build new homes?!
1. As the population of Ottawa increases, so will the demand on green spaces. The pandemic highlighted the importance of greenspace to the mental and physical health of surrounding communities. The solution to increasing the housing stock does NOT lie in removing green space. This green space will be critical to the current and new population.
2. Removing greenspace from the Greenbelt is completely counterproductive to any sustainability and reduced emissions goals. Climate change is real and we must act immediately, including preserving existing greenspace within city limits to reduce heat effects, and support resiliency to extreme weather events.
3. It is outrageous that the Province believes it to be acceptable to determine and enforce land-use within municipal boundaries against the wishes of said municipality. This is especially true when the Province's plan is not in the best interest of the municipality and citizens of the Province, as is the case with the "Proposed Amendments to the Greenbelt Plan".
The "Proposed Amendments to the Greenbelt Plan" MUST BE SCRAPPED!
