Comment on the Cancellation of Drive Clean Testing in Ontario
I am an owner of a recreational motorhome (RV) which is currently subject to emissions testing under the existing heavy-duty Drive Clean requirements in Ontario. Since I have owned the vehicle, I have been required to have my motorhome tested seven (7) times under the current program. For all seven emissions tests which I had to pay for, the vehicle averaged between 4% and 6% of the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide standards. The vehicle is rarely used, only for vacations during the summer months and is well maintained.
I completely agree that the Drive Clean program has outlived its usefulness. I understand from the announcement of the cancellation that is to begin in April 2019, that this will only apply to light duty vehicles and that heavy-duty vehicles will be the focus of the future program. I do not support the continuation of the Drive Clean program for non-commercial recreational vehicles. My vehicle like most powered recreational vehicles, has passenger plates and is not classified as commercial even though it has a mass of greater than 4500 kg.
Please ensure that recreational vehicles, campers such as ours, are not captured by the new heavy-duty program as in my opinion there would be minimal environmental benefit and continued aggravation for RV owners like myself. Thank you.
