I am firmly against the expansion of Hamilton’s urban boundary — and even more firmly against the suburbanization of Ontario’s Greenbelt. As a resident of downtown Hamilton, I walk past many empty parking lots, boarded-up buildings, and other abandoned infrastructures that could easily be converted into sustainable and profitable housing. It frustrates me that we would sooner look to pave the Greenbelt than invest in our urban areas. Please — as a Millenial with a long future ahead of him in downtown Hamilton — do not strip our city of its surrounding natural beauty, but rather invest in the urban space that is ready to accommodate people with all sorts of housing needs and expectations.
