Please do not allow this. Ontarians have been clear that they do not want to lose precious farmland. There is food scarcity in our future, and we should be preserving all farmland in anticipation of that.
I also do not believe that any housing built in the proposed areas would be affordable, and this is the type of housing needed. In a city like Hamilton, for example, there is ample unused inner city space that could be turned into multi-unit homes.
Mr. Ford likes to speak to the idea of democracy and how “the people” spoke loud and clear in voting him in. (In a year with the worst voter turnout, mind you.) If he believes in democracy, why is he ignoring the loud cries of the majority of the population begging him not to do this? Democracy doesn’t mean listening to developers and wallets— it means listening to the people. And it should include protecting our land for future generations.
