All acreage included in the proposed amendment to the greenbelt should undergo vigorous environmental audits to protect our watershed that feeds the lakes and rivers in our region. Particularly non-farm land needs to undergo meticulous environmental assessments. The culling of original or old-growth forest is harmful if done for the sake of paving over the environment, whilst damaging the watershed and decreasing urban density. In conclusion, problems of harmful building substances from cement, building materials, and the compacting of ground around our watersheds will negatively influence the quality of our drinking water for generations to come. Densification is the answer, not urban spread.
