This is a major concern environmentally, economically and politically. The GTA does not need more land for suburban sprawl. What is desperately needed is legalizing multi residential dwellings on all single family zoned properties. We need densification. This will preserve our green belt, reduce the cost of infrastructure construction and maintenance per citizen, and allow for a healthier, more walkable city. In reference to MPP Victor Doyle's “The Growth Plan and the Greenbelt Plan Setting the Record Straight”, we can confidently conclude that we have enough land currently to accommodate population growth for over a decade to come (conservatively). A better policy would be mandating a “use it or lose it” policy to ensure available land is developed and not used to park capital. I urge you to reconsider this short-sighted, unnecessary proposed amendment.
