I was dismayed that the Ford Gov't abruptly cancelled our Ontario Cap & Trade program which was clearly working to lower emissions while returning cash rewards to the province AND create jobs for so many workers in trades that helped people be more environmentally efficient (there's "efficiencies" for you ! !).
We invested in new windows, insulation in attic & basement & thereby provided work for the fellow who did our Energy Audit, the young men who installed better windows as well as the window & insulation businesses & all who manufactured these products---all of whom took pride in helping people to contribute to a better world for all of us, our kids & grandchildren.
And the new gov't did this in great haste & without any replacement program. AND they kept saying they were killing the "climate tax" when it wasn't a tax at all ,showing just how confused they were. This certainly leaves me distrustful of those who fashion themselves as "for the people". What people ? For us, our kids, our grandchildren, the window and insulation industry, energy auditors, those who make & installed our higher efficiency gas fireplace....etc.( so many other's could be included like the solar panel sellers & installers at our daughter & family home as well as those of more & more of our neighbours)
A ray of hope came through the gloom for us this week when we heard Ecojustice would take up the case. Let's hope that this backward step can be reversed soon enough that the myriad of skilled workers, manufacturers of advanced products that have developed in Ontario over the past few years will still be waiting in the wings & not have moved permanently to other provinces or countries that appreciate their contributions to earth's survival.
