Development of protected green space in Ontario would be an extremely counterproductive action by the Ford government. The disruption of biodiversity would put thousands of species of flora and fauna at risk, not to mention that any development made on this land would likely flood due to the wetlands it would destroy. Furthermore, Doug Ford had vowed never to touch the Greenbelt. This would be another item on the list of his rescinded promises. In addition, there are many more solutions that would solve the current housing and homelessness crisis in Ontario. To begin, the solution is not more suburban detached developments, but high-density, low-income, affordable housing for those at risk. Developments in this protected green space would serve no one but the millionaire developers along the highway 413. It is essential to understand who the target of the housing developments is, and to protect and prioritize our Ontarians at risk or in the midst of housing instability. By extension, it is equally important to protect our wildlife, our green space, and the biodiversity contained within it, or risk losing key factors of Ontario’s nature.
