In a world rapidly impacted negatively by climate change, the first thing on a sound, ethical development plan that focuses on future generations and sustainable change should be the long term effects of any interventions we are making on our green space, socially, economically and environmentally. Fast, cheap houses at the cost of the unique bio systems on the green belt will not solve the housing crisis. The land isn’t suitable for the proposed plan; the houses will flood and will require costly upkeep that will be impossible for potential owners. Manufactured communities such as these are not supported by the existing infrastructure, meaning more dependence on cars, which are also a luxury and costly item for people and family who are already struggling to find housing. Canada is a country rich in space; these biodiverse areas don’t need to be a sacrifice when planned housing can be proposed in less impactful areas, and stronger commitments to building sustainable and responsibly in communities which would benefit from better planned communities that are coupled with green sustainable infrastructure that included local commercial supports, new educational facilities, expanded historical services and natured-based solutions
