Doug Ford was voted into office stating he would protect the Greenbelt. We need this land for agriculture and to protect the headlands of our local river ecosystems. These rivers feed Lake Ontario and naturally filter the water to keep it clean. Students across the GTA have been involved in the Bring Back the Salmon initiative for over 10 years in combination with the Toronto Zoo to re-establish the once extirpated Atlantic Salmon in Duffin’s Creek. Much work has been done to reduce the erosion and pollution along this creek and restore this natural, renewable resource for future generations. We need more protected lands. Not fewer. We need to keep our eye on the distant future and plan for sustainability, not the near future and ignore the negative impacts paving over these lands would have on the greater ecosystem and our future needs for clean water, and places to grow food locally. Farmers feed people.
Build housing where it already exists. Plan better and build up instead of across. Think about the future generations of GTA residents and stop this plan before it moves forward. Pressure the Federal government to implement a plan whereby new Canadians have to NOT live in the GTA for x number of years, make better rent control laws, or ban the sale if homes fir use solely as AirBnB type rentals. There must be far better solutions than to just make rich developers richer.
Protect our local Greenbelts. That is what Ontarian’s want and that is what you promised voters you would do!
