There is plenty of land (eg. In Richmond Hill) that is approved for development but the developers have yet to put any houses in the ground. These need to be prioritized above changing the greenbelt forever. Solving this problem would probably already supply the 50k houses needed and it wouldn't affect the greenbelt at all.
Our greenbelt needs to be saved to offset climate change, absorb rain, keep spaces for wildlife and provide space for people to enjoy the outdoors (multi use parks, etc.).
Removing the greenbelt just intensifies the heat island of the GTA and we cannot allow that. We must encourage people to live and WORK on the fringes of the GTA or outside the GTA rather than feel the need to pack more people into an already over crowded community.
