I am AGAINST using any greenbelt for new development. There are loads of places to first densify in our cities before it could ever be appropriate to even consider developing on the greenbelt.
The houses on the greenbelt would not be affordable. They are not already connected to infrastructure. They are not connected to any neighbourhood resources like Rec centres, libraries, schools. The costs of extending the infrastructure and maintaining it is unfair to the municipalities that already independently voted against using the greenbelt.
More money to municipal affordable housing initiatives. More kick backs to citizens and families with rental units in home or generational households. Tiny houses. Less red tape in zoning laws and land uses. Develop brown lands/unused industrial.
Many good solutions that don’t include destroying our natural resources.
