Having worked in the housing sector for over ten years I understand how desperately we need more affordable housing in southern Ontario.
Using greenbelt land for development is not the way to do it. The greenbelt removes carbon dioxide from our air. At this time of climate crisis we cannot afford to lose anymore ecologically valuable land.
Municipalities already have the land to meet the housing need. More urban sprawl forces people to rely on cars, another reason it is not a wise solution.
The climate crisis requires us to take every measure we can to mitigate catastrophic consequences. Housing developments won't do us any good if our plant is uninhabitable. We need to implement housing solutions that are ecologically sustainable to balance our need for housing with our need for a healthy planet.
