As promised in the election cycle, the Greenbelt should not be developed upon and instead remain protected land, which our provincial environment desperately needs to maintain given coming climate and environmental collapses. Additionally, the development of the greenbelt area into housing projects would not solve the issues it purports to but rather create further u affordable housing to be bought up by investors or the wealthy in the province, continuing to deepen the housing crisis. Instead of developing Greenbelt land, the province should take that time and money which would be otherwise wasted on this development and funnel that effort into exploring the repurposing of empty apartment buildings into high density, government subsidized low income housing as it allows people to live in the city where they work and puts empty building to use for much more housing than Greenbelt development would.
