This proposal is wrong on so many levels—it will only provide a fraction of the homes it claims but will absolutely ravage the protections intended to preserve and other ecologically sensitive areas for perpetuity. Wetlands prevent flooding and filter the water we drink— fill them in and you’ll have homes that are under water as soon as big storms hit. And they will hit, bigger and with greater intensity with global warming. These natural areas are intended to forestall this! And instead the proposal tries to delegate other areas instead completely ignores the fact that the green belt was specifically put aside because THESE areas are sensitive, rare, and have specific natural features that make them priceless in preserving endangered species, including migrating birds. Once these areas are paved over, they are gone FOREVER. They cannot be recreated elsewhere, the rare species, the insects, the complex ecosystems cannot be brought back. This is a shameless money grab by land speculators and the people of Ontario will pay for it.
