With climate change continuing to have an impact across Canada, North America, and the world, we need to stop tearing down environmentally protected land. The proposed land swap provides zero additional benefit as this land the province will receive is already likely not developable or it would likely already be built on. The province would also not receive any money for the value of the land being given. Why? The minute you allow development on it, it should be given at a substantial value, certainly more than receiving sup-par land back. This will only benefit one party - the development industry. They will use this land to create a concrete jungle of oversized and overpriced homes that will only benefit those who can already afford homes. Instead of paving over the green belt, why not ask why thousands of homes that have received draft approval already, are not getting built!
