This policy is atrocious and does not keep in mind the future impact of what building in the Greenbelt means. As we work towards reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, we should be honouring their teachings on this land that we now call Canada. One of the teachings focuses on the seven generations, which means thinking about our actions and the impacts they will have for our future as we often just reap rewards in the present (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_generation_sustainability).
Have we consulted with other nations that have seen in influx of immigrants? Have we looked at what possibilities around high density living would like? Have we also considered having immigrants live in existing small towns surrounding the GTA with growth and job prospects being attractive draws?
Once this first revision to the plan is made, it is a slippery slope opening up this land to reckless decisions. This Greenbelt plan change seems like it’s an easy ask without thinking about what the future seventh generation deserves.
