While it is important that the housing issue in Ontario is solved the proposed idea of gutting conservation and letting developers build on protected ecologically significant land is not the solution Ontario needs. The designated land for the green belt is home to vulnerable species, watersheds, and wetlands. It is also a place where residents can explore and engage with nature, be in trees, walk trails, and breathe in fresh forest air.
Cutting chunks from the Greenbelt which we have protected for 18 years is something we should not allow to happen. This protected land needs to stay that way and we need to find a way to help the housing issue without compromising our environment or our integrity.
