No municipality in Ontario needs this top-down directive of how and where to expand residential builds because many of us already found the solution. Simply put, the city of St Catharines, and I'm sure many others, have recognized that unused sites zoned as industrial or employment ought to be rezoned as residential. How is it ok to leave such a large stretch of a main street as a dilapidated ruin of a factory while tearing apart the spaces that make our community beautiful and attractive? The former GM plant on Ontario St in St Catharines is just one prime example of bureaucracy preventing a city from moving forward and creating places for residents to flourish, already right beside shopping, transit, and 400 series highways.
This government needs to limit their reach into the lives and spaces of it's people. Listen to the people of Ontario who already know what they need in their own cities because there little chance this initiative has the support of the many. Please see the attached articles to support my points.
