We need to protect lands in the greenbelt from development. Government should be focusing on revitalizing and intensifying downtown cores rather than pulling more people out to suburbs and allowing downtowns to die. By building up downtowns we reduce need for commuting, put housing where people who live and access services need it, improve economic prospects for downtowns in particular local businesses, and increase safety and health of downtowns by filling in the empty gaps and boarded up properties. Further, we don't need to demolish wetlands and forests and farmers' fields which are necessary to protect against flooding climate change and to feed us.
