The development and building over of the greenbelt will take away vital natural space for the GTA. This will have a negative impact on the wellbeing of animals in the region, people who now have to go further to access these relaxing regions, and also on the pricing of houses. To expand on the last point, building into a previously undeveloped area will require costly infrastructure installation and likely result in the houses built in this area being priced accordingly. There is additional density to be had yet in the currently developed areas for a much lower cost. Not everyone has to live in a concrete condo block, but there is an in between of single family homes and 20+ storey skyscrapers whilst still easing the housing crisis. A decision to encroach upon this natural space in the Green Belt will not go unnoticed by voters and taxpayers and certainly by future generations living in the GTA who will wonder why the solution to the housing crisis was to remove the Green Belt and continue down the very path that led to the housing crisis in the first place!
