Climate change is caused by human activities, and must be mitigated by stopping emissions of carbon and simultaneously converting to a green economy. It is almost to late for anything but mitigation, but we must try. We need immediate action by your government to reduce emissions, to act to reduce them by 100% by 2050, via a series of legally binding emission targets that industry must satisfy. You also should stop subsidies to fossil fuel companies and use them instead to subsidise green energy, as is done to economic advantage in much of the rest of the world. You should stimulate green jobs, whereas your actions to date have driven green energy jobs elsewhere. I heard the minister say on the radio that he accepts that climate change is caused by human activities that release carbon into the atmosphere, and that he will have a plan to combat climate change, that cap and trade is ineffective. I have heard others argue that cap and trade is indeed effective in reducing emissions. The minister should show us the data from which he draws his conclusion. And he should introduce his own plan now, immediately, before any action is taken to remove cap and trade. We already have too much carbon in the atmosphere and we cannot dawdle in acting to reduce emissions. The more we delay the more animals become extinct, the more our weather 'acts up' and costs us large amounts of money to mitigate damages, and the more dangerous the levels of carbon in the atmosphere.
