I disagree with the proposal to abolish the cap and trade program. I feel that it is necessary to have government taxation as a means of pricing use of the environment (e.g. use of the atmosphere as a place to dispose of air pollutants). The current structure of the economy treats the environment as an infinite resource, and thus accordingly places no price on its use; however, I believe science has already shown that this is false, and that nature is indeed finite. Since the market economy cannot accommodate this in its pricing methods, I believe it is necessary for the government to do so instead - for instance, with a cap and trade program - in order to protect against depletion of this resource. If the government is able to find a different method of adequate environmental pricing, I would accept that, but I do not accept the dismantling of any sort of environmental pricing whatsoever.
