The recent and ongoing pandemic have underscored the importance of maintaining the greenbelt for not only the ecological health of Ontario but for the preservation of our climate, recreational opportunities, and as evidenced by the vast number of people making use of local parks and trails, our mental health. Once you start taking away sections for development, where will it stop. Worse, it will lead to yet more commuters and more traffic congestion. The overall quality of life for Torontonians will deteriorate - not improve.
While I appreciate the urgent need for housing, more careful planning is needed to avoid all the downsides to this seemingly short sighted decision affecting the greenbelt, which on the surface, appears to benefit mostly the developers - especially those that purchased lands now included in the plans for development.
