Hello,
I am very opposed to proposed amendments to the Greenbelt plan. It is not the case that currently protected land can simply be swapped for other land. Most if not all of the affected tracts were chosen for specific reasons. Substitution of these tracts for other parcels of land is not equivalent.
It is meaningless to create a Greenbelt that can then be altered at the whim of a particular government for its own suspect purposes. It makes a mockey of the term "environmentally protected land".
There is plenty of room for housing within existing urban boundaries. The Ford government prefers instead to diminish the Greenbelt. That can only be in order to help developers who can more easily build and make far greater profits from converting existing Greenbelt land to housing.
This proposal combined with other related changes in Bill 23 More Homes Built Faster Act and building highway 413 will significantly diminish our environment.
It should not proceed.
Thank you for your consideration of my comments.
