I am registering my disapproval of the plan to remove lands from the Greenbelt.
- More homes are urgently needed, but there are better ways to get them, notably ways that increase density in urban areas where appropriate, greener infrastructure can be included, e.g., walkable communities with efficient public transit instead of suburban roads. Instead, I support initiatives to allow more rooming houses and multiple family dwellings in what have been single-family neighbourhoods in the GTA. I am a resident of Etobicoke.
- The Greenbelt lands were chosen because of their ecological importance, including their preservation of fresh water for areas of southern Ontario. They also provide green spaces that are reasonably accessible for urban dwellers to experience. If we develop them (in exchange for green space that is farther from a large part of the population and less environmentally significant, we will never, ever get them back.
