How will Ontario stand in the conservation world with the removal of the notion of a heritage “holding” category across the board. Jurisdictions have extensive “lists” of heritage assets that don’t need the rigour of expense of Pt 4 of 5 designation to be on the radar for protection if a threat develops. Recognition by listing is the worldwide way of protecting heritage assets. Ontario should not be acting outside the recognized standard of care for heritage assets. This silly idea that listed buildings have to be designated within two years of listing utterly doesn’t understand the concept. The notion that listed properties suddenly taken off the list will be part of a serious housing shortage is utter nonsense. Please eliminate the two year designate or delist portion of the bill.
