Developing this section of the Greenbelt is just the beginning. Future life on this planet depends on us keeping this Pandora's box closed.
We don't have a housing crisis we have an AFFORDABLE housing crisis. We have plenty of housing in the GTA but most of it is sitting empty due to foreign investors and Landlords pushing out families; seniors; people living with disabilities; and new immigrants to create short-term rental units.
We are facing two equally critical issues - biodiversity loss and climate change.
Biodiversity loss affects so much more - our food systems, economic systems, resiliency in the face of extreme weather. From Aspirin to numerous cancer treatments, more than 50% of all medicines in active clinical use come from irreplaceable natural sources.
1.5 degree doesn’t sound like a lot, does it? Consequences of allowing us to go beyond 1.5°C would be disastrous on every level: rising sea levels, deadly extreme heat, droughts and shortages of food and water.
My daughter is five. I don't want this future for her generation.
