The Municipality of Trent Hills supports the submissions of Northumberland County, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and Watson and Associates regarding changes to the Development Charges Act. As noted in the information from Northumberland County the current portion of the County development charge devoted to community housing services is $739 per unit. The funds raised and projected to be raised are supporting numerous new affordable units through out the County.
It is also important that growth continue to pay for the services and infrastructure required to support that growth. The funds derived through development charges from new development supports the new and upgraded infrastructure required for that growth.
If development charges income is reduced it will mean that existing tax payers will have to make up the shortfall.
