The green belt must be preserved at all costs. There will always be development pressures but costs of servicing thousands of acres and the long commutes they lead to is unsustainable. Intensification along European models is the way to go. Mid rise and medium density development within the current urban limits can result in liveable communities and efficient use of our existing infrastructure. Municipal governments must take the long view and ignore nimbyism in approving new intensification projects. Our provincial government must stop wheeling and dealing with the lands they hold in trust for future generations. This dealing is especially true with their developer buddies who stuff their election coffers in the expectation of future payback.
