While I appreciate that there is a housing crisis occurring right now, there is also a bigger issue of the climate crisis. Adding to suburban sprawl into ecologically protected lands cannot be the solution. Continuing on this path will not only further erode wildlife habitats and green spaces, but it will also contribute to climate related disasters through flooding and the like. Without protecting our green spaces we have no hope for tomorrow. Addressing housing pricing, short term rental properties and ensuring a livable wage to all would do as much to alleviate housing issues as building on protected lands. Locally I often see commercial spaces that are no longer occupied: converting or rebuilding those to accomodate dwelling above would allow both humans, fauna and flora to thrive. I urge you to consult with environmentalists and ecologists and think of the future when planning and find another solution that builds into the already available infrastructure.
