I am a retired land use planner with over 4 decades of experience as a planner both at the Provincial level and as a consultant to developers and to local municipalities. I am shocked at many elements of this Bill. It is land use planning and densification by target numbers. At what cost? Ontarians don't just want to provide a "unit" to live in. We want to provide a community with schools, parks, community centres and work opportunities. "Meaningful" green spaces and protection of environmental features. While I do agree that rules and regulations to bring housing onstream had become way too onerous with gatekeepers (approval authorities) losing site of how to keep the balance between protection and provision, I think this bill will jeopardize the future of the the Province I love. This bill is a reaction to a problem. It is not a thoughtful piece of legislation. The collateral damage will be our children, grandchildren and future generations. Please Premier, as a family man and a proud Ontarian, rethink this bill in its consequences for the Province. This is not what we want.
