I disagree wholeheartedly with the proposal to scrap the cap and trade system. It is important to have a system that holds polluters accountable in order to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. We need to be reducing our collective carbon footprint, and the cap and trade system was critical to accomplish this.

I think the government should be doing more, not less to arrest the progress of climate change. I want a real plan to reduce emissions, help people and create jobs in the $26 trillion dollar green economy. I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050. I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.

Why would Ontario not want a piece of this economy? The PC government says they are for the people and are for creating jobs, so why leave us out of this? We should be working towards a province that no longer relies on oil. We understand the implications and must move forward in a bold strategy, otherwise what is the point of any of this? We cannot live without clean air and water. Our farmers cannot survive with unpredictable weather patterns and without farmers, we would have no food.

This government has the opportunity to look ahead to the future and not get caught up in the past and the way things 'have always been done.' Please use this opportunity to be a leader and take our province into a future that is bright for the next seven or more generations. We need to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions. We can do this.

Please do NOT end the cap and trade system.
