I am totally opposed to proposed changes to the Greenbelt Plan under Bill 23 that could result in the loss of good agricultural land, specialty crop areas, significant forest lands, wetlands or wildlife/fisheries habitat. The maintenance and continued protection of such areas within the Greenbelt area are an essential part of our collective response to the climate change emergency and its implications for the health and safety of residents and visitors to our province.
There are other areas ( marginal quality rural lands, brownfields, vacant lands within current urban boundaries , etc.) that can support the new or renewed housing the government wishes to promote. Municipalities can require greater intensification and densification of housing as part of new approvals, as well as reducing maximum building size for new residential houses and reducing the maximum % lot coverage for new houses.
