I am strongly against the proposed changes to Ontarios greenbelt plan. The proposed legislation would make it easier for developers to pave over wetlands which are not only vital habitat for aquatic and terrestrial organisms but also provide many essential services to humans. These services are needed now more than ever to help climate change impacts including increase in carbon release and increased flooding frequency. I am a young Canadian that is concerned about the housing market however, I do not believe that this is the best way to increase housing availability. There are many other options available to the government that will not have permanent negative impacts on our province. I recommend the government do more work to examine other options that will continue to protect Ontarios wetlands and increasing affordable housing availability.
