The choice to remove restrictions and develop on the green belt sets a very bad precedent for protecting our valuable green space for future generations. There are far too many areas in the GTA that have already been developed and suffer from a severe lack of proper city planning and have much lower population densities than could be supported. Before destroying ecosystems to build more poorly planned communities, resources should be directed towards repairing failing existing infrastructure in established communities, where transit is better utilized and carbon footprints are much lower.
