Bill 23 is a strong-armed attempt by the provincial government to override existing and well-considered municipal procedures of both the right of notification and the right to review development proposals. The resultant loss of green space, farmland and community character will not benefit anyone except those developers profiting from their speculative land purchases who have been waiting for a compliant government to bend to their wishes. In addition, it is clear that the Ford government is not concerned about food security and the impacts of climate change on the people of southern Ontario. The after-math of Bill 23 will be more destructive to the peace of mind of citizens of this province than the Liberal Parties Green Energy Act which affected deep divisions in many rural communities and left some community groups still trying to pay the legal fees incurred in their fight against it.
