Solving the housing crisis does not require building over and destroying the greenbelt. Foremost, the plant is our first and only home, which we also share with other living beings. Displacing other living beings that are central to biodiversity, carbon capture, and human health is ill-advised. High-density housing and working with bylaws to create secondary residences on large lots offer solutions within currently developed areas. Likewise, the housing crisis is also about affordability which can be fixed with rent control. Please prioritize environmental protections over capitalistic-driven maladapted solutions. Destroying the greenbelt is short-sighted and will not solve the housing crisis.
