Ontarians are concerned about climate change. We are already experiencing hotter temperatures, more severe storms, opening of shipping routes through melting Artic ice. The tornadoes in eastern Ontario and the huge hail in cottage country this past summer are most recent examples. There is no doubt that climate change is costing us now due to repair of damaged personal property, infrastructure and increased insurance premiums.
To hear that our government has dismantled green energy projects made possible by cap and trade is heart breaking. What was emerging as a promising new green economy in Ontario is collapsing. Investors are looking for environments committed to ending dependence on fossil fuels and reduction of greenhouse gases. All of these developments have happened in the vacuum created by a government without a plan to meet our Paris Accord commitments.
We demand that you immediately create an environment that invites green investment, rewards green innovation and supports a green energy economy. Stop the dismantling of green projects.
Humankind has only two years to make the changes necessary to keep temperature increases from reaching a self perpetuating cycle of escalation. Climate action is urgent. Be the government that leads climate action in Canada, not the government that champions resistance and denial.
