I am strongly opposed to these proposed amendments. I am a resident of Hamilton and I am very upset that parts of our Greenbelt are being removed. These parcels of land make no sense in terms of developing more affordable housing - they are far from jobs, services, and these lands are not serviced. Hamilton already has a plan to accommodate urban growth to 2051 within the existing urban area and expanding into the Greenbelt will not address the housing affordability crisis nor will it speed up the construction of housing as these areas are not serviced.
I'm also angry that these amendments will force Hamilton taxpayers to have a larger infrastructure deficit, causing higher taxes, for something we do not want.
I believe that Greenbelt protection is more urgent than ever to ensure future food security, climate resilience, protection of wetlands & groundwater systems, and biodiversity protection.
