I see no reason for the strategic removal of the 11 areas/locations listed from the greenbelt for the purpose of building homes faster. I think that the proposed amendment to the greenbelt plan will not effectively accomplish any of the core recommendations outlined in the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force report. In contradiction, the use of greenbelt land for major development will encourage urban sprawl instead of the recommended goal of increased housing density in the province. The infrastructure cost of urban sprawl seems particularly counterintuitive for regions that will have to cover this cost with increased taxation when pre-existing land can be utilized with improved zoning changes.
I strongly urge the Ministry to abandon this inefficient amendment.
