Strongly against the destruction of ecologically significant and sensitive land that cannot be replaced. The land quality being replaced is not of equal value. The town of Erin was not properly consulted. The Greenbelt provides homes for sensitive species. The Greenbelt was originally protected to protect against urban sprawl. Destruction of protected areas should not be the first option to dealing with population increase. Developers should focus on reusing previously developed lands and building smaller, more compact housing (apartments). From the records available, this was seemingly a well organized plan from developers and the current Government beginning years ago to cash in on the Greenbelt’s value. The Government should do what is right, not what is profitable. It should protect the land as previously vowed.
